Visitor FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

We have all experienced the uncertainty of visiting a church for the first time. And while we’ve tried to answer some of the most common questions here, please remember – there is no better way to get to know us than to actually join us on a Sunday morning.

What time is church? Worship services start every Sunday at 10 a.m. We suggest you arrive 10-15 minutes early to give you time to park and find a seat. At times during the year, we have other special services (posted on the church calendar).

Where are you located? Our address is 713 Main Street (Route 6A) in Dennis, Massachusetts. We are in the heart of Dennis near the gazebo on the town green.

Here’s a Google Maps link to our location.

Where do I park? We have parking behind or in front of the church, along Old Bass River Road and near Carleton Hall, and in lots across Rt 6A off Hope Lane.  Handicapped parking is available near both entrances with ramps for access on the right side of the front entrance and at the back door.

Is the church accessible?  Yes – with the exception of the sanctuary balcony.  There is a ramp for wheelchair access at the right side of the sanctuary entrance and at the back.

What should I wear? Wear whatever feels right for you.  On any given Sunday, some people dress more formally while others prefer much more casual clothing.

Will someone greet me when I arrive? Yes! It doesn’t matter if you’ve been coming to DUC for decades or this is your first visit – we always have a family, couple or individual who is there to say hello to everyone who visits the church.

How long does worship last? Approximately one hour, followed by Fellowship Hour where everyone is welcome for refreshments and conversation.

Where should I sit? We have open seating everywhere which includes the sanctuary and balcony. Please find a seat that is comfortable for you.

What can I expect? A traditional, but not formal service with progressive theology. Communion is offered to all on the first Sunday of the month, and occasionally we have special services highlighting our music ministry as well as youth and children-led services. Before entering the sanctuary, our ushers will give you a bulletin for that week’s order of service which includes hymns, announcements, a prayer list and an upcoming calendar of events.

Are children included? Yes! Most Sundays, there is A Word for the Young that takes place approximately 15 minutes into the service. At that time, children are invited to come to the front of the church for a brief message. At the end of the message, children are invited to attend church school in our downstairs classrooms. You are also welcome to accompany your child if that makes your child feel more comfortable.

Your child is invited to everything but they should feel free to participate in all of it, some of it, or none of it.  Children are always more than welcome to just stay with you and attend the service. It’s really up to you and your child to decide what’s best for both of you.

Is there childcare? A crib room is available right outside the sanctuary with professional childcare for children from birth to 3 years old.

What if I have more questions? Contact us by email at office@duchurch.org or call us at 508-385-3543. Better yet, join us for Fellowship Hour after worship and introduce yourself. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you better.
