“Icons of the Civil Rights Movement” commemorating heroes of the ongoing struggle to end racism.
Art and writings by David Purdy and Pamela Chatterton-Purdy
Beginning February 2, DUC will host “Icons of the Civil Rights Movement” – a selection of artworks and writings created by Pamela and David Purdy beginning in 2007 to commemorate historical leaders and ordinary citizens who participated in the struggle to end racism.
Twelve of the mixed media artworks created by Pamela Chatterton-Purdy will hang in the office hallway. You will recognize many of them, but some will be new to you. Each icon comes with a story written by David Purdy about the person and their role in the difficult and painful work for justice and equality during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and beyond.
On Thursday February 20, the Racial Justice Group invites everyone to join them in Fellowship Hall starting at 9 am to hear David and Pamela speak about their work and experiences as they have traveled the country with these educational pieces of art. (Rescheduled from February 6)
